Why do you forsake me, Will Wright?

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

So I’ve been looking forward to Spore since it was initially announced at E3 like, a long time ago. I’ve been aching with anticipation. I downloaded the creature creator and spent many hours playing with the free-versions limited 20% total parts.

So imagine my disappointment when someone on Twitter points out that the Mac version of Spore is not only made for the operating system above mine (10.5 vs 10.4) which would require somewhere around $120 to upgrade, but it’s for Intel Macs Only.

Spore requires at least the following:
* Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard or higher
* Intel Core Duo Processor
* 1024 MB RAM
* ATI X1600 or NVIDIA 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100
* At least 4 GB of hard drive space, with at least 1 GB additional space for creations.

This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems (PowerMac).

For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:
* Intel Integrated Chipset GMA X3100
* Dual 2.0GHz CPUs, or 1.7GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent

Why do I not find out about this until just days before the game is released? I mean, better now than when after I spend $50 on a game I can’t play, but still….

I think I died a little bit inside. :(
