Whenever I mention to people that I do a webcomic, I always get the same question. And every time, I give a different, sort of jumbled response. It’s a question you THINK would be easy to answer, but every time I get it I never know what to say:
“What’s your comic about?”
Why is this so hard? In my head, I know what each character’s story is about. I know what happens. I know the kinds of humor I enjoy and try to incorporate into the comic. But to try to summarize ALL of it into a couple sentences? Or even to just pick the most important stuff… which, how do I decide what’s most important to a reader? No one wants to sit through a half hour explanation of each character’s back story. That’s boring! What I needed was something quick I can tell people to give them a taste of what the comic’s about, and make them want more.
I knew I needed help… and that’s why I turn to you. Because if anyone out there knows this comic just as well – possibly even BETTER – than I do, it’s you guys.
So I decided I would make it into a contest… because everyone likes winning free stuff, right? I know I do. The rules are simple: in 50 words or less, describe BPD in the most compelling, interesting way possible. Imagine you’re trying to get your friend interested in reading it, but you only have MAYBE 30 seconds tops to convince him. It can be anything, as long as it summarizes the comic in some way. E-mail your submissions to LizardbethArt@gmail.com with the headline “BPD Pitch Contest” by August 1st. I’ll pick my top 3 and post them here for a vote. The winner will get an 11″x14″ inked drawing of any BPD character they want, or a character of your own design if you so choose (it HAS to be yours though, no asking me to draw Naruto or something like that.) The runners up will get something too… I haven’t decided quite what yet, but it’ll be sweet. ^_^
So go forth my minio- er, my kind and generous readers! Help me tell the world what the HECK this ridiculous comic is about, so BPD can spread across the internet like maggots on rotting cheese. …ok maybe not so gross as that, but you know what I mean.
You have until August 1st. Get to pitching!
Q- Can I submit more than one?
A- Yes! I’ll just pick your best one to be eligible for the top 3
Q – What if my entry is longer than 50 words?
A – That’s ok, as long as it’s within reason. (so 56 words is ok, but 350 is not)
